Serving as an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) volunteer at the COP27 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Sharm El-Sheikh was an incredibly rewarding and eye-opening experience. As a member of the team deployed in the master control room, I had the opportunity to play a crucial role in the smooth operation of the conference.
One of my primary responsibilities as an ICT volunteer was to stream audio and video from meetings to the United Nations website. This was no small task, as the conference was attended by leaders and representatives from countries all around the world, and the meetings were often highly technical and complex. However, thanks to the excellent training and support provided by the ICT team, I was able to rise to the challenge and do my job successfully.
In addition to streaming the meetings, I also had the opportunity to assist with various other tasks and responsibilities. This included setting up and configuring streaming systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and coordinating with other teams and departments. Working in the master control room was a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, but it was also highly rewarding and educational. I felt I was making a meaningful contribution to the conference and to the important work of the United Nations.
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” – Robert Swan.
One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering at the UNFCCC has been the opportunity to learn about the latest research and developments in the field of climate change. The conference brings together experts from around the world, and I have had the chance to listen to presentations on a wide range of topics, from the impacts of climate change on biodiversity to the potential of renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Overall, being a part of the COP27 United Nations climate change conference was an unforgettable experience. Not only did I have the opportunity to work alongside a talented and dedicated team, but I also gained a greater understanding of the complex issues surrounding climate change and the role that the United Nations plays in addressing them. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a significant event, and I hope to have the chance to serve as a volunteer again in the future.
